NAD+ 1000mg

Product Overview

NAD+ is nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, a coenzyme present in every cell you own. It is not a peptide and it is not exotic. It is one of the oldest and most fundamental molecules in metabolism, and the reason it appears on a page like this is that cellular levels decline with age and nobody has fully settled what to do about that.

Product Specifications

  • Active ingredient: Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+)
  • Total amount: 1000mg per vial
  • Format: Lyophilised powder, sealed vial
  • Reconstitution: Bacteriostatic water included in the box
  • Regulatory status: Research use only. Not a registered medicine in South Africa and not evaluated by SAHPRA.

What NAD+ Is

NAD+ carries electrons. Every time a cell breaks down glucose or fat to make ATP, NAD+ is the molecule accepting the electrons and NADH is what it becomes. That alone would make it important. What pushed it into longevity research is its second job: it is consumed as a substrate by the sirtuins and by PARP enzymes involved in DNA repair, which means those processes draw down the same pool that energy metabolism depends on.

The 1000mg vial size looks large next to a peptide because it is not a peptide. NAD+ is a small molecule used at completely different quantities.

Research Applications

Cellular Energy Metabolism

Studied as the central electron carrier in glycolysis, the citric acid cycle and oxidative phosphorylation.

Sirtuin Activity

Investigated as the required substrate for SIRT1 through SIRT7, a family linked to metabolic and stress response regulation.

DNA Repair

Examined in relation to PARP enzymes, which consume NAD+ during DNA damage response.

Ageing Research

Researched against the observation that tissue NAD+ concentrations fall with age across multiple species.

Precursor Comparison

Compared with NMN and NR, the precursor routes that dominate the oral supplement market.

Mechanism of Action

Areas of research interest:

  • Redox cycling between NAD+ and NADH in energy production
  • Sirtuin dependent deacetylation and metabolic signalling
  • PARP mediated DNA repair and its NAD+ cost
  • CD38 activity as a major NAD+ consumer that rises with age
  • Mitochondrial function and biogenesis
  • Salvage pathway recycling of nicotinamide

Commonly Researched Alongside

  • MOTS-c
  • SS-31
  • Glutathione

Listed because these pairings come up constantly in published protocols and in what people actually order together, not because we are recommending a combination.

Reconstitution and Handling

Supplied lyophilised, with bacteriostatic water in the box. Reconstitution is done by the buyer, and the volume you choose determines the concentration you end up with. There is no single correct volume, only the one that makes your intended measurement easy to read on the syringe you are using.

  • Let the vial reach room temperature before you open it.
  • Wipe the stopper with an alcohol swab and let it dry.
  • Run the bacteriostatic water slowly down the inside wall of the vial rather than straight onto the powder.
  • Swirl gently until clear. Do not shake.
  • Label the vial with the date and the concentration. You will not remember it in three weeks.

Our peptide calculator will work out the concentration and the volume per measurement for you once you have chosen a reconstitution volume. Our reconstitution guide walks through the whole process step by step.

Storage

  • Ships lyophilised and is stable at room temperature in transit.
  • Refrigerate on arrival and keep out of direct light.
  • Do not freeze a reconstituted vial.
  • Once reconstituted, keep refrigerated and treat it as a short shelf life rather than an indefinite one.
  • Discard if the solution turns cloudy, changes colour or shows visible particles.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

Storage, reconstitution and handling after delivery are the buyer’s responsibility.

What This Page Does Not Claim

Raising a measured NAD+ level is not the same as producing a health outcome, and the human evidence that it does is thinner than the marketing suggests. There is also an active argument in the literature about whether direct NAD+ or a precursor is the better route, and it is not resolved.

Our guide NAD+ vs NMN: the molecule and its precursor explains how the two relate, what the human research shows, and how our vial and pens compare on price.

Regulatory Status and Notice

NAD+ is not a registered medicine in South Africa and has not been evaluated by SAHPRA. It is supplied as a lyophilised vial for laboratory research use only, and is not for human or veterinary consumption.

Nothing on this page is medical advice, and none of the research described below establishes a clinical outcome in people. Where the evidence is thin, we say so on the page rather than leaving you to find out afterwards.
